Mechanisms of ubiquitylation, deubiquitylation and proteolysis in developmental pathways and under stress conditions.


The use of modern mass spectrometry approaches enables the investigation of how polyUb chains mediate protein quality control (PQC) mechanisms, counteract stress-related damages and ensure cellular homeostasis. Endoplasmic Reticulum Associated Degradation (ERAD) governs the proper folding of soluble and membrane-bound proteins of the secretory pathway and singles-out aberrant species for proteolysis in the cytoplasm. Cdc48/p97 complex is involved in the unfolded protein response (UPR) and dislocation of damaged proteins from the ER. We want to investigate how substrates are handed over to the proteasome and whether UBDs play a crucial role in this process.
