Investigating the essential roles of Ubiquitin-like molecules and the Ubiquitin Proteasome System

Research Project 12.
The role of ubiquitylation in infectious diseases.

Objectives

We aim to identify protein ubiquitylation profiles during Plasmodium falciparum and Mycobacterium tuberculosis infections. Ubiquitylation profiles are expected to provide potential targets for drug development in the protein ubiquitylation and pupylation pathways. Such knowledge might be eventually exploited for the development of new antimalarial and antituberculant chemotherapies. With a similar purpose we would aim to characterize the ubiquitomes in kinetoplastid parasites causing neglected tropical diseases in the developing world, i.e. Leishmania and Trypanosome.
